Australia opens the door to children of reviled Isis fighter.

TThe orphaned children of an Australian jihadist who made his seven-year-old son pose for a photo holding a severed head are being repatriated from Syria. The three surviving children of Khaled Sharrouf have been taken by aid agencies to Iraq, from where they will be flown to Sydney. Aged 8, 16 and 18, they will be taken into the care of their grandmother, Karen Nettleton, 58, who has campaigned for their repatriation.

Tara Nettleton, the children’s mother, took them to Syria in 2014 on the instructions of her husband. She died in 2016 from complications related to appendicitis. A year later Sharrouf, whom she had met at high school in Sydney, was killed in a coalition airstrike, along with two of the couple’s sons.
