CClimate activists on the Extinction Rebellion funeral march from Marble Arch to Russell Square. Extinction Rebellion activists attempted to close down the City of London today as they targeted bankers at the start of a second week of protests.Police were swift to act against protesters, who had intended to “swarm” several sites in the area, but were quickly corralled into a small site outside the Bank of England.

Despite their stated intention to disrupt roads and public transport routes, traffic was flowing within two hours of the group’s arrival.

By 11am officers were moving many of the protesters back towards Trafalgar Square, the only location where they are legally allowed to demonstrate. Organisers had hoped to cause maximum disruption to financial institutions, including the Bank of England. “The sector’s contribution to funding climate breakdown is driving us.
