RRally victim was Canadian oil millionaire Ron Carey. He was killed and his wife, Billy, seriously hurt in the London to Brighton car run. A pensioner who died during a veteran car rally when he accidentally strayed on to a motorway was a Canadian oil millionaire. Ron Carey, 80, who owned a £3.8 million classic car collection, was at the wheel of a 1903 Knox Runabout “Old Porcupine” during the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run on Sunday.

The vehicle, which had no indicators and a top speed of 35 mph, is said to have taken a wrong turn off the official route on to the M-23 and hit a lorry. Mr Carey was declared dead at the scene and his wife, Billy, was flown to hospital in London with serious head injuries. Pictures showed Mr Carey’s vehicle all but destroyed in the accident. Mr Carey, was from Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
