Clean air campaign; Petrol and diesel cars, ban could be brought forward to 2032.

TThe sale of new petrol, diesel and hybrid cars could be banned in only 12 years under new government plans.Ministers are considering a 2032 cut-off date for the sale of new combustion engine cars and vans as part of a drive to tackle climate change and improve air quality. The target would be included as part of a consultation on proposals to phase out vehicles powered by fossils fuels, it emerged today. It represents a hardening of the government’s stance on the issue after originally announcing that the ban would be imposed in 2040.

A brief history of electric cars. Last week Boris Johnson said that the deadline would be accelerated by five years to 2035 to speed up the transition to zero-emission vehicles, which includes pure electric cars.
